The harsh weather conditions that WNY faces year round can have a severe impact on the ground and can cause yards to shift. This results in low spots, sloped yards, and uneven ruts. These issues can lead to water runoffs, soil erosion, difficulty mowing, or water retention.

All of these problems may be avoidable or treatable by regrading your yard. This is when the grass is removed, and soil is filled in and evened out, and the grass is re-laid. The ground around a house should always be sloping away from it, at a rate of 3 inches per 10 feet.

A job like this may require an extensive tool belt. At Double A Landscaping, our grading jobs require out Bobcat machine. This is a versatile machine as we use the bucket attachment, rockhound attachment, and soil conditioner attachment all to re-slope the property.

After removing any grass and topsoil in the area, the troubled area is rough graded with the Bobcat and bucket. This is a crucial step as the yard is graded and sloped away from the house. It is critical that the slop faces any creeks, drains, or other natural low spots.

For the next step, the soil conditioner turns up the ground and continues to slope away from the house. This will allow for the rockhound to go in an easily remove any large rocks or any other debris.

The final step is to lay about 4 inches of topsoil down. This will help prevent any drainage problems. On top of the topsoil, sod or seed is to be laid. After proper water and sun, the brand new yard will be flourishing and have a nice, smooth grade away from the house.
